The pleasure of dining

The Golden Eagle
Restaurant Cars
The Golden Eagle

One of the great pleasures of travel is sampling local food and drink as you pass through the changing landscape of the journey.  When you travel on the Golden Eagle Luxury Train, you will be in no doubt as to the quality of the freshly-prepared local dishes that are served in the lavish restaurant cars.

Local food, such as Omul fish from Lake Baikal, is complemented by fine wines from across the globe and the most famous of Russian drinks, vodka.

Bar Lounge Car
The Golden Eagle

The bar car is, naturally, the social heart of the train where passengers can unwind and relax, particularly after a busy day of touring, and share their experiences with fellow passengers. There are evening performances from the train’s resident pianist as well as the opportunity to play a game of bridge or backgammon.

This is where you can enjoy morning or afternoon tea with tempting cakes and biscuits freshly baked on board. The train’s tour manager will arrange a programme of activities here, including Russian language lessons, local folk songs and lectures from experts in local history and culture.

Dress Code
Dress Code
The Golden Eagle

During the day, the dress code on the Golden Eagle is casual both on and off the train, with comfort the main priority. In the evening, you are invited to dress more formally, though smart casual is the general standard.

For winter tours on the Golden Eagle, we recommend Ski-type jackets and trousers and thermal underwear. Onboard staff can provide hats, gloves and warm boots (so long as passengers advise of their shoe size). The train itself is always well heated and normal indoor clothing can be worn.

Freedom of Choice Touring

Tailor make your journey and choose from a range of Freedom of Choice touring options that best suit your interests.

Your excursions off the train will still include all the major attractions in the places you visit but in certain destinations, you will be offered a selection of activities to choose from so that you can customise your experience.

All Freedom of Choice tours are booked aboard the train so there’s no need to decide in advance and you can enjoy genuine flexibility to make the most of your holiday.

The tours are all included in the price of the holiday, so there’s no extra to pay.
