Catch a Eurostar service to Paris, crossing to the Gare de Lyon and continuing your journey through eastern France to Switzerland. Arrive in Zurich and check into the conveniently located Hotel Adler (or similar) for your overnight stay.
Zurich is a lovely city spanning the River Limmat where it flows into Lake Zurich. You will have time this evening to wander around the Old Town and have dinner at one of the city’s many restaurants.
Today is the the highlight of your rail journey as you cross the Alps via the Gotthard Pass. Travel through the Italian speaking Swiss canton of Ticino, via Lake Lugano and down into Italy. Change in Milan before continuing to Venice. On arrival, make your way to the Do Pozzi Hotel (or similar) for a 2 night stay.

Discover Venice over two full days. Take in the views from the top of the Campanile in St Mark’s Square, cross the Bridge of Sighs on a guided tour of the Doge’s Palace, visit the stunning art collections at the Accademia and Peggy Guggenheim galleries or simply find a campo to relax in, with a chilled Aperol Spritz.
TMR RECOMMENDS: Extend your visit to Venice so that you have more time to explore other islands such as Murano and Burano, or the sandy beaches of the Lido.
Spend another day in Venice and then, in the evening, return to the station at around 7.30pm for the sleeper train back to Paris. We recommend a final Italian meal near the station before boarding and settling into your comfortable private compartment for your overnight journey.
ALTERNATIVE ROUTE: A popular alternative to the sleeper is to take another scenic journey back through the Alps, via a different mountain pass, with an overnight hotel stay. Route options include Zurich, Lausanne and Turin. Please ask for more details.
Your train pulls into the Gare de Lyon after 9am. On arrival, transfer to the Gare du Nord by metro (we provide the metro tickets and directions to make this transfer) and board a Eurostar for your return journey to London.
Alternatively, if you would prefer to spend a day in Paris, we can arrange for a later train for you so that you can enjoy some extra time in the City of Light!
