Catch a train from London St Pancras today, getting you into Brussels in less than 2 hours. An easy platform change takes you onto the high-speed ICE line direct to Frankfurt. On arrival, check in for an overnight stay at the Manhattan Hotel (or similar).
Frankfurt is known as one of Europe’s most important financial centres, but there’s also a pretty Old Town area and a lovely botanical garden as well as some major museums and art galleries.
After breakfast today, return to the station and take a direct train across the Swiss border to Landquart. Here, change onto a regional service which will deliver you into the centre of Klosters. Your accommodation tonight is at the Sunstar Hotel Klosters (or similar).
This famously exclusive ski resort (regularly visited by Prince Charles) is also a typical Swiss village, surrounded by the Alpine landscapes of the Graubunden region. You will be served a welcome drink at your hotel before enjoying a 4-course dinner.
Enjoy breakfast at your hotel before setting out on your first hike. This route should take you around 6 hours, but you can shorten the walk by taking a cable car and train if you would prefer. Details for this will be in your hiking notes. The trail takes you over the stunning Strela Pass and through the Sapün Valley to Arosa. You might like to stop at the Strela Pass Restaurant for coffee or a snack, with fantastic views.
Arriving into Arosa, check in for a 2-night stay at the Sunstar Hotel Arosa (or similar), where you will be having dinner.
Located at the end of the lovely Schanfigg Valley, Arosa is a traditional resort both for summer and winter activities. You can spend your free day here simply discovering the little shops and cafés that the village has to offer, or take advantage of the Arosa guest card to access the surrounding mountains by cable car and gondola, where there are a multitude of walking trails to choose from.
In the evening, you will have another 4-course meal waiting at your hotel.
The full walk today takes around 6 hours, but there are lots of options to shorten this depending on what you would like to do. You can either walk or take a gondola up to the Hörnli at 8,245 feet above sea level and then descend into the valley of Urdenfürggerli. Another ascent takes you to Rothorn Gipfel, where there’s a panoramic restaurant for lunch or a drink.
From Rothorn Gipfel, you’ll take a cable car down to Scharmoin and then follow the downhill path through the forest and into Lenzerheide. Your overnight stay here is at the Sunstar Hotel (or similar).
Leave Lenzerheide today and take the train north to Zurich. You have an overnight stop here at the Sorell Hotel Rütli (or similar).
Spend the rest of the day at leisure exploring this lovely city. Perhaps wander around the Old Town area of the city, or take a boat cruise out on Lake Zurich. You might also like to visit one of Zurich’s museums, such as the attractive Kunsthaus or the Swiss National Museum. There are plenty of tempting options for dinner along the River Limmat.
Spend another morning in Zurich before heading back to the station around lunchtime and catching a TGV service to Paris. If you have time, why not stop for another night here to visit the City of Light? Otherwise, cross to the Gare du Nord for your return Eurostar journey to the UK.
