Boasting mountain ranges, crystal-clear lakes, glorious coastline and over a thousand islands, Croatia is a beautiful country to explore by train. The country’s long and chequered history has also left it with a rich cultural legacy, with medieval walled towns and Slavic churches sharing space with Venetian style piazzas and Roman amphitheatres. You can get here by overnight train from Munich or make extra stops in places like Salzburg or Lake Bled. Alternatively, there are ferry services from Ancona and Bari during the summer months to Split and Dubrovnik respectively.
Fly to Budapest and then catch the train through the fantastic scenery of rural Hungary and Croatia, en route to the historic city of Dubrovnik on the Adriatic Coast. Along the way, you'll stop at lovely Lake Balaton, Zagreb and Split.
