From April 14 to October 9, 2022 the Floriade International Horticultural Expo will be taking place. This unmissable event only takes place once every 10 years – and next year it will be in Almere, which is just a short train journey from the centre of Amsterdam.

You can book a holiday including a visit to the Floriade 2022 Expo. Why not have a look at our Rail Holidays to the Netherlands page or create your own Netherlands itinerary? If you travel between mid-March and mid-May, you could take in the famous Keukenhof Gardens at the same time!

The theme of this edition of the Floraide Expo is Growing Green Cities, with a focus on green and sustainable technology. New technologies for horticulture, food, energy and health will be researched and implemented at what is, in effect, a living laboratory.

The park is currently in the process of being built but we know that there will be exhibits from over 40 countries, presenting their own national plants and flowers along with local innovations in green technology. There will also be a number of national pavilions including the Food Forum and the Garden of Peace and a huge arboretum.

The Expo will offer a wide-ranging art and cultural programme featuring exhibitions, live music from classical to jazz and other entertainment. There will also be plenty of opportunities to eat and drink.

Once the Expo finishes in October, the entire site will become an urban district called Hortus. Houses and other neighbourhood facilities will be located on the same plots, with a skeleton of a city district being laid out prior to the event. This means that the transition from event site to city district will be as sustainable as possible and Hortus is intended to last for more than a hundred years.

You can find out more about Floriade 2022 on their official website. Day tickets go on sale in autumn of this year but we can book a holiday for you incorporating a visit to the exhibition now.
